T he Treasure Island Sailing Center Foundation is a non-profit sailing center located on San Francisco Bay whose purpose is to improve our community and the sport of sailing by providing access, facilities, and sailing instruction to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, levels, and physical abilities.
TISC offers a variety of programs to accommodate the wide range of age and abilities of our participants, including extensive Youth and Adaptive outreach sailing programs. Each year, the Youth Sailing Program serves over 750 youth aged 7-17, providing beginner, intermediate, and racing classes to children from a variety of neighborhoods and youth organizations.
The goal of the TISC Youth Program is to instill life skills of teamwork, communication, decision making, and responsibility through the forum of learning to sail boats. We offer full and partial scholarships to over 80% of our youth participants so that every child who wants to can take part in the fun and excitement of sailing on San Francisco Bay. Our program strives to provide kids with segmented experiential learning and various opportunities that encourages them to continue their education and stay in the sport of sailing for years to come.
TISC provides sailing lessons in small dinghies and keelboats ranging from 8 to 24 feet in length. Our US Sailing Certified Instructors are trained in meeting the educational and social needs of our students. Students learn the basics of water safety, sailboat maneuvering, and safe boating skills. Their goals are outlined, their progress is tracked, and their achievements are rewarded, providing the kids with the outline for overcoming challenges and achieving their set goals.
TISC’s success depends on the dedication of our sponsors and volunteers who share our vision of spreading the challenges and joys of sailing to every child in the Bay Area community.
