WHAT IS THE BIG TEAM REGATTA?
The event is an afternoon sailboat regatta which pits area organizations against each other in pursuit of glory, bragging rights and the opportunity to help a great non-profit, the Treasure Island Sailing Center.

Since founding the regatta in 2003, Group Experiential Learning has worked with leading sailing schools such as J World Annapolis and OCSC SAILING to build the BIG Team Regatta into a bicoastal fundraiser for youth and adaptive sailing programs. The BIG Team Regatta has become a major part of Treasure Island Sailing Center's programs helping underserved kids learn life skills and have fun out on the water!

Once again this year, OCSC SAILING, one of the nation’s leading sailing schools and a Bay Area institution renowned for it’s community service is committing it’s entire facility and staff in support of the BIG TEAM Regatta.

Four person teams funded by community-minded corporations and philanthropic individuals will sail identical performance sailboats provided by OCSC SAILING and staffed with a professional sailing coach. Each team will experience sailing’s special power for honing communication and collaborative skills during a team building/race training session conducted by GEL and OCSC SAILING in advance of the regatta.

On Friday, October 3rd, GEL & OCSC SAILING are hosting the 5th Annual BIG Team Regatta for the Treasure Island Youth & Adaptive Community Sailing Programs. Click here to learn how to get involved as a participant, volunteer or sponsor!

A Message From The Founders
Sailing has been an incredible part of my life. As a volunteer at Treasure Island, I learned how life-changing the sport can be for young children.

In 2003, the Big Team Regatta concept was born. With the help of Jahn Tihansky, and countless volunteers and sponsors, we’ve created a fund raising event for programs which help underserved kids on both coasts.

Thanks for considering joining our big team, now in it’s fourth year, and I’ll see you on the water!

I'm delighted to participate in creating this regatta for the benefit of the Treasure Island Sailing Center. All of us have had the support of helping hands as we've made progress through our lives. Some of them we were able to thank, but most of them are probably anonymous to us. What is important is that someone took the time and effort to help improve our lives. Our obligation is to keep that chain of helping hands unbroken from one generation to the next.

It is a wonderful thing when an opportunity arises that allows us to give back. All true giving has only one wish - that the good will should be passed along. The BIG Team Regatta will help benefit hundreds of young people who will be introduced to the joy and independence and self reliance of messing about in boats. Sailing is a sport that provides riches in experience for a lifetime. Your support of this excellent program is a gift that will truly keep the chain of giving for generations. I'm proud that OCSC SAILING can play a part in ultimately getting more children out on the water.

Fair winds,
